Storytime Baker is built so that every child and family can enjoy magical bedtime stories together. We've designed the app with accessibility at its heart, supporting a range of needs right out of the box.

Dark Interface

Storytime Baker offers full dark mode support with adaptive colours throughout the entire app. Whether you're reading a story at bedtime with the lights off or simply prefer a darker interface, everything adjusts beautifully.

You can choose your preferred theme in Settings:

  • System — follows your device's appearance setting automatically
  • Light — a bright, cheerful interface
  • Dark — a gentle, easy-on-the-eyes experience perfect for bedtime reading

Larger Text (Dynamic Type)

All text in Storytime Baker scales with your device's text size settings. If you've set a larger (or smaller) text size in your iPhone or iPad's Settings, the app will respect that preference throughout.

Our custom fonts — Fredoka and Quicksand — use Apple's relativeTo parameter to properly honour Dynamic Type, so everything stays readable and beautifully laid out at any size.

Reduced Motion

All animations in Storytime Baker respect the iOS "Reduce Motion" accessibility setting. When enabled:

  • Floating and bouncing character animations become static
  • Confetti effects are removed
  • Shimmer loading placeholders are still
  • Mesh gradient backgrounds stop animating
  • Transitions happen instantly
  • Symbol effects (bounce, pulse) are disabled

This means families who are sensitive to motion can enjoy the full Storytime Baker experience without any distracting movement.

Captions

Every story in Storytime Baker displays the full story text on screen alongside the audio narration. Children and parents can read along while listening, making it easy to follow the story whether or not the sound is on.

Additional Details

Beyond our four supported accessibility features, Storytime Baker is also designed with these considerations in mind:

  • Built with standard SwiftUI controls, which support VoiceOver and Voice Control by default
  • iPad keyboard shortcuts are supported — ⌘ N for new story, F for favourite, Space for play/pause
  • Audio narration has adjustable playback speed (0.75×, 1.0×, 1.25×, 1.5×)
  • No location, camera, or microphone permissions required
  • Safe, ad-free environment with no tracking
